CHERRY VALLEY WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
In support of Friends of East Lake - We must protect one to have the other
Members of the Cherry Valley Womens Institute are pleased to join Friends of East Lake in an effort to protect our local lake.
We understand that tourism is extremely important in this County, however it seems to us that in order to protect the industry, we must protect both our Lake Ontario shorelines and our inland lakes.
We urge both the Mayor and council to do all they can by means of bylaws or other official methods to prohibit owners from unnecessarily removing trees and water plants from around our lakes without permission.
If these practices are allowed to continue, we will ruin fish spawning grounds, bird, mammal and amphibian habitats - the very things that tourists come to our County to experience.
We would also remind council that in our visioning sessions a few years ago the public overwhelmingly voted to protect the beauty of our County and specifically the shorelines.
