Our Youth

Hello everyone and welcome to the Youth page for the Friends of East Lake!

Youth Council Group PhotoMy name is Heather Redmond, I have lived on East Lake the majority of my life and have fallen deeply in love with what East Lake has to offer to my family and my entire community. I am currently in my graduating year at PECI high school in Picton. Through my high school career I have been part of the REAL LIFE program. This program highlights environmental awareness, risk management, Citizen Arbourist training,Temporment theory, No trace camping and many more subjects that are intertwined with environmental awareness. This year I was a senior REAL LIFE student and worked with my mentor and teacher, Mrs. Curran to assit to teach but I also planned our final exam, which was a 1 week canoe trip to Algonquin Provincial Park.

I have worked closely with the Stewardship Council to help plant trees at various places around Prince Edward County and have Co-oped with Master Gardener, Phil Kennedy at PECI's very own greenhouse.

This fall I am leaving the hamlet of Cherry Valley to continue my Education at Sir Sandford Fleming College, for Park Operations and Outdoor Recreation. I hope to return to my home after my first year of studies with confidence that things will remain as peaceful and tranquill as they were when I left.

I invite all interested youth to help to preserve our lake and and it's very fragile ecosystem, have a voice, and make it known that it's not only the adults of the community that care, but the youth as well. We are the ones that will inherit East Lake and we HAVE to make sure that it is protected.

Thanks to all of you that will inherit this wonderful lake!!
